Bunless Beef Burger

INGREDIENTS:

  • Ground beef, 90%+ lean, uncooked - 1 lb (455 grams)
  • Egg, whole - 1 large (50 grams)
  • Chopped yellow onion - 2 tbsp (20 grams)
  • BBQ sauce, Heinz - 1 tbsp (20 grams)
  • Sea salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Black pepper, ground - 1/2 tsp
  • Chili powder - 1 tsp
  • Paprika, ground - 1 tsp
  • Garlic powder - 1 tsp
  • Olive oil - 1 tsp

TOPPINGS PER SERVING:

  • Romaine lettuce - 1/2 to 1 oz (14 to 28 grams)
  • Sliced tomato - 1 slice
  • Red onion, sliced - to taste (optional)
  • Avocado - 1/4 small-medium (25 grams or about 1 oz)
  • Sliced pickles (to taste)
  • Ketchup (to taste)
  • Mustard (to taste)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add the ground beef, egg, chopped yellow onion, BBQ sauce, sea salt, black pepper, chili powder, ground paprika and garlic powder in a large bowl. Mix properly and split into 4 patties.
  2. Set a large pan on medium-low heat. Once hot, add the olive oil and patties. Cook for about 5 minutes on each side (depending on how well cooked you prefer your burger).
  3. Use two romaine lettuce leaves per burger. Fold the lettuce leaves in half and use them instead of a bun. Slice the tomato, red onion and avocado.
  4. When the burger patties are ready, combine a patty and the topping ingredients into a burger. Serve and enjoy!

*Note: Divide equally by the listed number of servings. Stays fresh in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. You can also freeze the burger patties. Store all the burger toppings and burger patties separately in airtight containers

Nutritionist notes: To add some healthy fats and fiber, we switched the cheese for avocado. You can also use pre-made high quality burger patties instead of making them yourself. Just make sure that the patties weigh less than 3 oz each (patties in recipe weigh about 2.8 oz).
